Every summer, Preservation Volunteers, a non-profit co-founded by our president, Dexter Guerrieri, hosts volunteers from France to help preserve historic sites in the United States. Brooklyn preservationists Everett and Evelyn Ortner and Dexter co-founded Preservation Volunteers in 2002, after they toured Europe and saw the exceptional work of REMPARTS, a French preservation organization marshaling volunteers to work at sites in Europe.
Yesterday, the Vandenberg Team was delighted to work alongside Preservation Volunteers at Green-Wood Cemetery to help clean and restore gravestones, including the grave of the late and great, Jean-Michel Basquiat. We were also videoed by a news crew from CBS’ Inside Edition, so stay tuned for a piece about our work coming soon!
If you are a history or nature lover and have never visited Green-Wood Cemetery, add a visit to your short list. Green-Wood is a National Historic Landmark and Arboretum, located on 478 acres in Brooklyn.
